Do you guys read those stuff you see on the bookstore's front shelf with "New York Times Bestseller!" on the cover?

no, not really, though if i like the blurb on the back and the first paragraph is written well, then i would probably buy it.

I'm not the heavy intellectual type, I read classics now and then but I enjoy mainstream books easier.

>> No.3124899

no because everything is a new york times bestseller

also usually means it's shit.

The alchemist is actually a pretty good novel, I'm not a fan of Coelho though

Although I respect your opinion on this novel, I find The Alchemist and Paulo Coelho's work altogether sufferably bad.

It bugs me he's brazil's most internationally known author.

I enjoyed The Alchemist but loathed Veronika Decides to Die, it was incredibly pretentious.

Occasionally, but something outside of what you just described is what compels be to read 'em.

why do you find it so bad?
I know it is extremely overrated and well known for what it is, but I didn't think it was bad

Unfortunately...
Brazil has great authors and neither one of them is this guy. That's my opinion... Paulo Coelho sucks.
