Have you read it?

No.

Yeah, I liked it. I think it's expertly written. It takes something special to make you empathise with a paedophile.

I guess you could say that, yes.

>empathizing with Humbert

Wat. Never crossed my mind. In fact, his flowery language and all that made me hate him more.

I honestly see two different parts to these "lolita complexes".

One is violent, only caring for the man's sexual fantasy.

And the other, well, is something else I guess. It's hard to explain. It's not so much a sexual matter, but more emotional.

I am a victim to the latter feeling, and I have no sympathy to the first.

One is selfish and disgusting, the other is kind and lovely.

Probably my favourite book.

I think as he lost his Lolita he no longer cared for children. Most of the chapters after she is taken away are descriptions of his life with the woman he was staying with and remembering his times with Lolita.

In early chapters he would describe his lust for nymphets and little girls. His love becomes less attached to Lolita's child body but instead he is attracted to her as a person.

Nabokov's overrated as fuck in general

Limpid nympet, never grow up!

>> No.3121725

Rereading it now... I read it as a teen and at the time it was a dreamlike romantic destructive thing. Now, a few years later, it still has that lovely and sick dreamy destructive thing but holy shit HH is such a sick fuck and parts of the book make my skin crawl.

>> No.3121727

why are we all telling eachother whether we've read it as if any of us care

>> No.3121732

One part I was never clear on was did Lolita have actual sex with the kid Charlie? Or just something like a blowjob?

>> No.3121867

>>3121732
I think it was actual sex iirc. She was telling HH how she thought everyone did it.
