/lit/, have you ever wanted to change your name? Embody that worldly literary character you always wanted to be? I was thinking about it - and I don't have particularly strong family ties, so I was thinking of changing my last name too. What are some of your favorite last names?

Do you, when meeting someone/reading a book, make predictions on their personality? I just met a woman named Katherine recently - and she was unbearably rude and shrewd, which was hysterical to me and made her presence much more bearable (Taming Of The Shrew).

I think I'm partial to names like Wintermere or or Byron or Verdant (or maybe Vermont? my name translates to this roughly). I think the first two are a little too canonical for me to pick, though. What do you think?

Pic related, one of the greatest names of all time.

What's your name right now, OP?

This is maybe a little personally identifiable, it's not too common. It's Moriyama.

Pretty nice last name, OP. Don't see why you'd want to change it.

>> No.3110115

It sounds like you prefer English names to Asian ones. Might as well go with Vermont, if that's what your name is once you Anglicise it.

Thanks, I was only thinking of changing my last name, my first one I certainly am (not going to post that though).

I was curious if you guys heard any really great ones as well, for writing's sake. I'm surprised how many people have names they loathe but never choose to change them, when people could quite easily choose a more vibrant one.

>> No.3110126

How do you know that the author isn't using that name ironically? Like when some people call a bear-mode guy tiny

>> No.3110130

I'd like to change my name. I'd go by my middle name but it's a huge hassle to change everything now.

>have you ever wanted to change your name?

Yes.

>Embody that worldly literary character you always wanted to be?

No. That is lame.

I'd rather actualize my own potential.

>> No.3110134

I've been wanting to for a long time. It's a huge hassle though, so I'm taking my time. I just constantly use aliases, each more boring than the last.

I already started going by a pseudonym in real life, it feels liberating. I haven't done the legal work yet, though.

Care to elaborate? I mean choose a name that represents or maybe describes you.

If I do get it changed I think I'll change it to Daniel. My middle name is shared by my father who I want to remove any ties with (including why I want to change my first name) and a real life acquaintance as well.

If you are fine with every asshole in the country calling you "Dan the man" everyday for years, go right ahead.
Source: Daniel by birth.
On topic, I would change my name to (middle name) Cash. I just like nondescript, traditional, rootless names. Nothing that sounds like you are naming a WoW toon.

I've recently started really liking the name Percy.

But that's probably because of Percy Shelley.

asking your parents why they chose your names can be pretty humbling, like a flavor of the month actor/ess.

nice name, but very English. I feel like American normalfags would not accept it.

Since I started blatantly lying about my name to every new person I meet, I've got through at least 15 names. They mean less and less each time, to the point where names are completely pointless anyway.

My name is awful, so for a while I have been thinking about going by my last name. I just moved to a new city a couple months ago and don't know too many people so in theory I could probably pull it off. For some reason I would feel like i'm deceiving people though.

My last name is Davenport by the way. I think it sounds cool in a sort of old distinguished manner. Sort of like Heathcliff. I'm a pretentious ass though right?

I always use psuedonyms. Hearing my name shouted by the crowd of girls: "Hey ****", whom I regaled the night before in drunken ecstasy, running fearfully from them disgusted by my own antics, in the gaudy light of day.

Don't want to be giving that out on 4chan (even with lit's mostly harmless nature) but rest assured it's a terrible name, a synonym for a penis in some runs, and given to me by my parents because they wanted me to be a professional football player...So yeah.
