Read about 300 pages of this.

Not too impressed. There have been times when I was slightly gripped, but the mythos has failed to really reel me in.

Should I give it more time? Or is it over-rated?

Thanks for your help. Really, thanks.

If you want to give the Wheel of Time a chance, I'd say you "have to" read the second book. I think it is much more indicative of what the series is and will become than the first book. Then you can bail out without wondering if there might have been something there after all.

Really reel, thanks.

Yeah I know what you mean OP. The first book kinda flaffs about a bit in the hometown, it's in the second book where the world really opens up. I think it's because he wanted to draw a lot of parallels between the hometown (forget the name obv) and The Shire so just when you think it's on a similar scale to Lord of the Rings your mind gets blown when he reveals the rest of the universe. I'd say if you've liked some parts give it a chance and it'll grow on you later on.

keep going OP, I thought the first book was really mediocre at best but it gets much better at the end. In the beginning its mainly a rip off of LotR, but as soon as its start doing its own thing, it gets really good.

q. to other WoTfags now that there is thread:
reading the third book right now and why the fuck are they all so suprised that the forsaken are loose? I don't get it, its not even that they already KNOW that, that even FOUGHT against them already for crying out loud, why are they so freaked out??
hope the spoilertags work, never used them before. if not, its not much of great spoiler anyway.

Hey thanks.

Woah! Thread exploded in the time I took to thank 3rd poster!

I know, he just spends too much time on the little details. I mean it's cute in the beginning, but as the book goes on it gets redundant.

The reason I was asking was so I could buy the second book before the only known copy that I have seen at the only decent bookshop in my city gets sold out.

It's been a while, but I think they hoped that Aginor and Balthamel were released because they were closer to freedom than the others, and that the others were still safely imprisoned for at least a moderately long time.

Good shit, I'm at the Shadow Rising atm. My biggest grievance is the fucking women who constantly spout tonnes of casual misandry all the time every time.

Wait until the next book. Half of Nynaeve's POV is "men are so stubborn"
