So I'm thinking of handing out CD's with a little library of fiction and non-fiction to trick or treaters so they can enjoy it after they've over loaded on candy. Anybody have any suggestions on open source/public domain fiction appropriate for 5-15 year olds? currently in the fiction section I have the atomic robos from the past 4 years of free comic book day.

Don't be silly, it won't /just/ be CD's, I've got like, 3 kilos of candy to hand out.

And some won't, and then it will be worth it.

not your responsibility dude

most people don't read novels for fun. this has always been the case and always will be. just because you believe in the value of something doesn't mean others should too. get over it. get some damn candy.

Not knowing exactly what's on them beforehand their parent's will likely just toss them out. I like the idea but I doubt it'll work out to your satisfaction.

1: I have gotten some damn candy, you get yourself some reading comprehension.
2: Out reach is important, if you want to live in a society where reading is a thing, you need to make things worth reading easily available.

Why does it need to be in the public domain?

Covering ones ass from legal recrimination. Just handing out copies of lord of the rings has some potentially negative consequences in person.

Kids don't even read the books they're assigned at school. There is no chance in hell that they are going to read something some stranger gave them.
