Discuss Kurt Vonnegut. My favorite author but with flaws certainly. So... Discuss.

>> No.3074931

fuck you, OP. if you want to talk about Vonnegut, say something to get the conversation going. fuck.

Pic kinda related.

I don't really like him: I enjoy his books while I read them but they never leave any lasting impression once I have finished. They're like Pringles: you enjoy them while you are eating them but they never leave you full or satisfied.

Only book which breaks that pattern for me is Mother Night which is pretty good.

I am reading Mother NIght right now. Is good but feels more conventional than his others. No?

I feel it's the only one where the characters actually have some substance and it isn't 'here's some interesting if meaningless concepts to look at.'

I think he tried to be Mark Twain v2.0 and kinda failed.

Just a slightly amusing hipster. Nothing wrong with that.

definately agree he wanted to be mark twain but i think he went deeper. or maybe im just swayed by his relative modernity. still i know what you are saying.

When I was a kid, I loved the attitude of Slaughterhouse and Galapagos. Slaughterhouse was almost sci-fi to me but Galapagos was just pessimistic dystopia.

I think he is a failed sci-fi author. Much like Margaret Atwood.

>> No.3074976

>>3074972
hmm, failed sci-fi author? see i thought he was not really trying to be a sci-fi author. just pretending to be as a disguise. lol, i don't know but your opinions seem interesting. ty

I think that's cool to give authors more credit than they objectively demonstrate worthiness for. I think you must be a nice person.

his books are good I know he's popular and that must really irk you but id say he does scifiish pretty well. I havent ready any of them since I was like 17 so maybe i dont remember, but I do remember him seeming over rated but the books were still real good reads.
