I've written a few short stories, and I'm ready to take the plunge into writing a complete novel.

What do you guys think? What are elements you look for when you pick up a novel?

Full frontal nudity.

exactly what a pleb would say what intellectuals crave is full penetration

Either the novel is a Classic or something near universally praised. Sorry if that doesn't help a new writer but it is true.

Share one of your stories, OP. We can judge if you're ready for primetime. It is true that short stories and novels require different things of the writer, but chances are if your short fiction isn't adequate, any novel you try to write is going to be a complete mess.

As to your question, generally anything that takes place before the 1900s (with some exceptions--Moby Dick among them) doesn't tend to hold my interest too well.

Alright, thanks for the support. I've started a thread about my first attempt at a full novel which I'm posting pieces of here: >>3065220
