It's a little late in the game but from what I've seen a manager assigns tactics for the squad.
So ideally what you want to do is download PES, pick a formation, tweak the tactical sliders, and run test simulations on the opposing sides and then tweak the team based on those simulations until you feel your squad can consistently crush the other team.
It's probably a little late for anyone to get all of that organized for us right now.

You might want to do a quick check of /vg/ to see if there is a Babby Cup General since there are usually some managers in those threads.
You'll also want to download the squads which should be on the wiki I think.
