Can anyone tell me where beliefs come from? (maybe according to Descartes?)

I need a philosophical standpoint to prove/disprove that beliefs originate from sense experience.

Descartes doesn't hold that view. Hell, I'm not sure if anyone ever has. Maybe Leibniz? Knowledge, on the other hand...

math? science?

I though Descartes pointed out the sense as one of his major doubts along with the dream argument.
I'm pretty sure Hume believed that beliefs and emotions stemmed from sensory experiences, breaking it into two categories impression and copy.
Impression was the initial experience of the belief felt through physical, sensory, or otherwise mental ways and copy is pretty self explanatory.
This is how Hume also explained sympathy. You can relate the image of someone sad with the copy of an impression of your own sadness (taken from past experiences).
Dint know if that helps

telll your professor or whatever that "where beliefs come from" is not a philosophical question. it is an empirical question that can be examined by inductive studies (as least as far as one acknowledges the scientific method). it is a question for psychology and not metaphysical speculation to answer.

however if you absolutley need to work on this false premise; any german idealist should do the job. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_idealism
