do you have an idol.

recently i found out i dont have one
horrible i know/

i've considered
>Che guevara but he's 2communist4me
>Socrates but it feels like its been to long
i would prefer a person from more recent times
>Mark twain he is funny and political but im not a huge fan of his books.

but enough about me the main theme of this thread is who is your idol and why?

Your "idol" doesn't have to be a particular person. It can be a movement, mindset, genre etc. Anything you look up to and want to be like, really.

There are a lot of people that have inspired me, not sure if any of them would be a so called 'idol'.

Alexander Pushkin
Johan Wolfgang von Goethe
Beethoven
John Milton
Charles Darwin
Tchaikovsky
David Lynch
Dante
Lenin
Oscar Wilde
Fyodor Dostoevsky
Karl Marx

The one that comes closest to being an idol is probably Dostoyvesky. I love his books and Brothers Karamasov and especially 'The Grand Inquisitor' and also Ivan's talk with the devil, were probably the greatest things I have read so far.
There is still a lot more I have to read by other writers though...

Spike Speigle: because he is such an awesome character. Funny, and a bad ass, and also deep and honorable.
Stephan King: Say what you want about him but don't deny the fact that this man is a legend. He wrote dozens of classics and is (almost) always an entertaining read.
Aaron Paul (the guy who played Jesse in breaking bad): God damn it this guy can act! I think he is one of the most under rated actors in the world. I really hope being in breaking bad sets his career off and we start seeing more of him.

He is not a legend. He his written no 'classics', and he never will.

Eh I would disagree as he is not only widely read and incredibly prolific but a passionate player. Perhaps you are coming at it from a semantics term and are defining classic and legend as words that require a certain amount of time to pass in order to be properly applied.

in that case yr argument is boring and will be pedantic and will become obsolete in a few decades as he will certainly be remembered as both a legend and as a writer of classics.
