Pavements main accomplishment was revolutionizing a thoroughly detestable music scene and making it even more terrible, only to be eventually rejected by those who they inspired. I do like The Fall.

Pavement says that they have nothing important to say, don't you get that? It's the poetry of solipsism. You're dead on, I like it because it's ambiguous. As per the bizarre language, the empty metaphors... you need to input your own intelligence and experience in order to make something out of it. It's participatory. Otherwise they do say nothing. You have to actually think about Pavement's lyrics for them to evoke anything. That's more than I can say for e.g., Lou Reed.
