Richard Evans trilogy is brilliant and thorough.
The third book is about the Second World War explicitly, the first two are the lead up.

Churchill's Work, the Second World War is a necessary read for real world war 2 lovers (just be aware of Churchill's immense bias and his inability for political reasons to criticize some generals as strongly as he could). Also, strongly recommend as previously mentioned the rise and fall of the third reich. "Stalin, in the Court of the Red Tsar" gives a great portrait of the eastern front.

I just realized that I cant think of one solid book that sums up the pacific front, although there are tons of very good specialty topics:
