Hey /lit/!

I'm in need of some help in finding a downloadable PDF file of Ayn Rand's 'Anthem'.

Could someone help me out here?

Friends don't let friends read Ayn Rand.

Why? Are friends supposed to subject friends to utilitarian ethics based on some cosmic sense of morality?

Apparently so.

The important word here is 'subject'.

i can send it by email

Because it's badly-written faux-philosophical drivel.

Why doesn't /lit/ like Ayn Rand?

Ayn Rand is not the solution to anything.

Because there's no reason to.

Really?

Iv'e never really read any Ayn Rand, but I really like the idea of individualism.

All her work is basically a long whine against socialism, which of course was a massive success in America.

It's still worth a read, though.

It must be more than "a long whine against socialism". Really, there has to be more than that.

... Well... Could someone recommend me any novels based on individualism? Or just general interesting philosophy for that matter?

Have you read Plato?

No, no I haven't.

I'm not really into the world of literature, whenever I begin reading a novel that I suspect anyone on /lit/ would understand like 'The idiot' - Dostoevsky I begin to feel stupid. It seems like it's too intelligent for me. Sorry about the rant.

Mmm... don't worry about it. Most people on here aren't that intelligent anyways.

Some of Plato's dialogues are fun to read both because of the philosophy and the historical context..

Charmides (love)
Euthyphro (piety)
Phaedo (soul)
Republic (politics)

Those are the ones I can remember enjoying. There's a lot more though, so pick whatever you want. The shit on metaphysics is really hard to parse though.

Once you read a bit of Plato, you can (more or less) safely jump around to whatever time period/philosopher you would like.

Wikipedia helps.

Thanks mate. Really appreciate it.

Wut? It was a bit confusing, so is the whole novel based in a train or what?
