I always thought Evelyn Waugh would be boring and dry, and these were the expectations I had going into his A Handful of Dust. It was one of the most enjoyable works I've ever read, precisely because it managed to overcome my initial scepticism. I think I'm going to reread it and start a discussion thread about it one of these days.
