What does /lit/ think of this? Listen. Basically a short section at the beginning of each chapter, maybe a few hundred words, less than a quarter of the chapter, showing...well, whatever. Maybe a flashback, a flashforward, or some extra stuff about characters not addresses in the main chapter. Would this work or not? Not sure if an author has ever done anything quite like this (although someone somewhere must've, in some obscure novel).

I recall something like that in Sometimes a Great Notion. Each chapter starts with a sort of hypnotic description of time and place (the Oregon woods)
