you're freed from the burden of trying to come up with motivations for your characters or plots since the motivation is sex, and the plot is how do the characters have sex.

it's easy to write. that's why so many writers start off with a few erotic tales in their early careers. gives you a way to polish up your mechanics of writing

Not the guy you replied to, but I disagree, plot can and does play a huge role in many works. A lot of the effect of a sexual situation comes from context anyway.

Plus, you have to be a decent writer, but not too good to where the prose distracts from the erotic. It's pretty challenging.

write effectively? probably horror. just basing my opinion on the fact that i've never read a horror novel that was actually scary. and that's the point isn't it? i think evoking actual fear in someone is more difficult then making them laugh, or making them sad or angry or whatever other emotions writers capitalize on.
