Hi, /lit/, I have a problem.
I love reading. I've always loved reading, but I feel as though I'm not reading correctly. Like I'm not ingesting everything as I should. I only read at a surface level and only after poring over hours of analysis online am I able to begin to understand deeper meanings in literature.

Has anyone else faced this issue and overcome it? I feel like I lack the necessary depth to become a good reader. I want to be a well-read person, damn it. Am I just too fucking dumb???

Most likely, no one read bedtime stories to you correctly when you were growing up.

But how do you know how to read a book if the book explaining how to read a book is itself a book?

>> No.2914232

Read, try to make sense of what you read (why is this character doing this and not that ? What is so particular in this description ? Would the last author I read have handled the scene like this one does, etc. ?). But stop worrying, just stay interested. And keep reading.

Well they explicitly state that they're essentially writing for people who are on like a sixth-grade reading level and explaining how to read more complex things effectively in manner that isn't in and of itself very complex.
