Hey lit, What would you consider required reading before you get into college?

>> No.2911291

Your college acceptance letter

>> No.2911295

Disgrace, by Coetzee
The Beach, by Garland

Assuming we're going with fiction here. Those are just two books that I enjoyed immensely and altered the way I carried out my life a decent amount, if not hugely. Others will have different opinions.

>> No.2911298

I mean books that help you become a more mature, well rounded individual.

>> No.2911300

what you going to be studying?

try and get hold of the reading lsit for your courses and have a look through it.

also have a look at the handouts you get given on freshers week that tell you how not to get mugged/raped when you're out drinking

>> No.2911301

The Things They Carried. Im a girl and I hate war books but this was different

>> No.2911304

Im on the Pre Med track.

show me your boobs pl0x

>> No.2911305

Depends on where you're going. Though, if you're a typical college student then read "The Rules of Attraction" by Bret Easton Ellis. If you're going to a technical college or engineering school or something like that, then read "Gödel, Escher, Bach" or anything equally nerdy, like book on calculus or algebra, or something...

Well if you are, just worry about schoolwork. This is an opinion that may be controversial, but premed is extremely competitive and difficult for the average person.

Most true pre med people I never saw for months and months. Constantly busy and working.

House of God is an interesting book, medical related too.

And never forget the most important thing is ethics, no matter what they teach you

Why is it good?

Bollocks. Never accept somebody else's notion of politics, religion or ethics. They are only flawed ideals. You must come up with your own view of what is right/wrong and how you would like to govern/be governed.

>> No.2911325

I dont believe in ethics anymore

Well obviously but you're going to have a much better informed world view if you read other people's ideas too

well reading about it isn't bad. It will still give the person something to think about.
