So I just finished up The Sun Also Rises. It was a great novel and gave me a few feels, but in all honesty, the plot felt like a straight-forward "We fished, partied, watched bullfights, had a fistfight, I loved Brett, the end". Can anybody help me with some sort of analysis so I can get a bit more out of this? I feel as though I missed a lot of reading between the lines.

honestly I felt the same way. Stuff just sort of happened, without any real reason or significance.

Well, I guess the things that stuck out for me were the need to police and reinforce one's masculinity amongst the bros.

2. Bitches and hos ain't nothing but tricks. What remains? Bros4lyfe

3. The bullfighting as an allegory for the sexual act of penetration or failed penetration, as it were.

4. The modernist feel of disgust with the ornate and fancy language, furnishings, and lifestyle. Hemingway feels very modern because he was one of the first to go spartan and popularize the movement in the English lit world.
