Does /lit/ have any advice on beginners who want to take up writing novels with no prior experience in serious writing?

If you have no good reason for it, just don't.

I want to do it.

Seems a good enough reason to me.

Read as much as you can from a wide variety of material.
Write regularly.
Find people whose opinions you value to edit your work.

It's not complicated, but it is difficult.

read a lot

Read lots.
Write lots.
I'd suggest trying to write some shorter stuff first or at least in addition to trying to write a novel.

Hey, are you on /mu/ as well?

Don't climb Everest before a rock wall.

Get a handle on your writing and improve your skill with short stories and other work before jumping on a novel.

If this is too much for you to do then you won't be able to do a novel. Simple as that.

Just pick a topic and write.
I've never written anything serious before until a few days ago when I just sat down and decided to write a submission to TAR.
Then, tonight, I decided to write a little piece about /tv/.
Just sit on down, think of something to write about, and write it.
If you keep doing that, you'll improve over time.

Would you care to share your piece about /tv/

Certainly. I already posted a thread about it, here >>2872169
