I'm looking at ways to start getting in to writing. Being as diverse as possible helps; practice writing novels, blogs, articles, scripts, poems, short stories, etc. See what you can get published somehow, or what's junk, or what "projects" can be shelved. Building a CV is probably the most important thing.

If you're interested, Cracked.com will publish witty articles and will take on people with zero experience, which might be a good way to kick-start your CV.
