Best portrayals of social anxiety in literature?

That chapter about sweating in The Pale King was pretty on the mark.

Try the other New Autists, and maybe some other DFW texts.

Tao Lin probably has something on being socially idiotic; I can't be bothered to read his oeuvre.

not "awkwardness" (quirky affected tics by hipsters), i mean proper anxiety and agoraphobia.

Perhaps you should actually read Tao Lin's work. If there's one thing he manages to pull off, it's communicating the terror and neuroses of everyday communication.

The Double by Dostoevsky.

The only good thing about the Double is the fish cakes part. 80% of the story is boring garbage.

I had a pretty good time reading it, simply because of how fucking retarded Golyadkin was.
It was my first Dostoevsky, too, so it was a nice, light-hearted step into his works.
I smiled each time he referred to him as "our hero."

Anything by Dostoevsky really

Oh god, that chapter was painful to read. My anxiety has never been that bad, but I could still imagine exactly how he felt.
