Honestly, I really like Lovecraftian horror. It's not exactly shit-your-pants scary, but if the descriptions are good you can get immersed in the creepy atmosphere. Honestly, I'd love to see some literature like what Lovecraft did(I've already read a bunch of Ligotti stories, someone recommended those the last time I asked for Lovecraftian horor).

I like Poe's stuff, too, although more because I enjoy the writing than because I think it's 'scary'.

Maybe I'm a pussy but Stephen King's IT is creepy at points.

More, the story isn't creepy, but when I woke up in a pitch dark room confused for whatever reason last night thinking of a shape shifting monster I was a bit freaked out for a moment.

Or play Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Cry of Fear.

It's near the end when she's locked in the car, driver seat
And she realizes the dog was just there watching her all along through the glass, centimeters away, silent and motionless

Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Teatro Grottesco, by Thomas Ligotti. The former is out of print and can be very expensive. Your best bet is tracking down a copy of "The Nightmare Factory", which is basically an omnibus with a shitload of Ligotti's fiction. The library may have it. Copies online shouldn't be as expensive.

But I don't know about being scared shitless, though. There's some really disturbing stuff in his books (disturbing as in unsettling, not violent), but he's more about distorting your view of the world and make you realize what a pathetic little being you are (and everyone else too for that matter.)
