ITT: Name the best of the best of Stephen King

If you were to recommend 1 S.K. book to a person, which one would it be?

>Pic related
This got me some weird dreams a few years back, loved it.

Skeleton Crew

>> No.2811576

Many will say The Stand but that book is highly overrated.

I would go with a "classic" from his early works, The Shining. IT is a good choice, as is Pet Sematary.

They're all shit, bar The Gunslinger. Which is only good because it's nothing like Kings usual work.

Misery, because that book legit creeped me out.
Also Stand by Me.

>> No.2811587

I would never do that to a friend. I would do that to an associate that I don't particularly like.

Insomnia is the only Stephen King book I have ever read. It started off incredibly interesting, but rapidly turned into some bullshit inter-dimensional conspiracy theory stuff, which basically ruined an entirely interesting premise. Since reading said book, I have been informed that all Stephen King books suffer from the same problem.

What a shame.

I'd recommend It and tell them to avoid The Stand.

Pet Sematary. Short, taut, and incredibly frightening. His masterpiece.

>> No.2811619

The Gunslinger, obviously.

>> No.2811621

Gunslinger, I would never have started reading Stephen King if it wasn't for Gunslinger. It's not his best written stuff, but if i was to forget all of his stuff except for one thing, Than I'd go with The Dark Tower,

This. But if you do read this, don't read the rest of the series. They utterly destroy the world and the characters that he built in the original.

>I have been informed that all Stephen King books suffer from the same problem.

Now THAT'S a shame, because whoever told you that is full of shit.

The Dead Zone, The Long Walk, 11/22/63, Pet Sematary, Christine, Cujo, Firestarter, Carrie, The Green Mile, Different Seasons, Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Under the Dome...these are all fantastic novels, and it's a pity that you've missed out on them because of some dumbass on /lit/ who hasn't read any of them.

>> No.2811654

Dark Tower is fucking great, but OP is probably looking for horror.

You mean they don't all start off with interesting ideas but rapidly spiral into silly conspiracy ancient aliens shit? Oh, okay.

I wasn't really a fan of his writing style either, but if the stories themselves are not as bad as I originally believed, then perhaps I'll give Pet Cemetery a read - given the amount of positive things I have heard about that book, it only seems like the most logical place to start.

I'd got to go with "Eyes of the Dragon". It a pretty good genre fantasy with wizards, dragons, and court intrigue. And it's plotted like King was thinking more than three pages ahead for a change.

Also, it ties in with the Dark Tower series and The Stand.

>> No.2811701

I don't know, because I have yet to read a good stephen king novel.

I've already read Dark Tower. It sucks.
