That pussy in my mouth had me at a loss for words

And that’s when she said I'm lick like a lollipop

Hip hop lyrics, even the best, are generally stupid and inarticulate. Small, y'know? Sometimes hip hop is catchy and funny. That's about it. It's pop music not intentful art.

Please don't post a link some awful conscious underground rubbish that uses long words like "pyroclastic" a lot.

You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

My veins are poppin from this love inside,
I just can't let it out.
This pipe and these needles are my only guide,
They've got me on the wrong route,
What is my life about?
Living in the shadows of a man I've never seen,
and dreaming like a lonely child.
I know your brothers and your sister and your mother too,
How I wish you could see them too.

So can I come to see you sometime,
Cause I been missing you?
I've never heard you cry I've never seen you while
I'm feeling oh so young,
But still I must die to get to you.
And if I do I wonder how just you will see me,
and implicate the things I've done.
I'm dying in the shadows of this man I've never seen
I'll see you soon,
Now where's my gun?

I can accept that. It's pop music. OP said it has replaced poetry. That's bollocks.

Also, hiphop is pretty much the cultural default these days. Rejecting it is to be sticks one in the vanguard.

Obsolete? Nah. But many would-be good poets are instead rappers, sure.

Relentless poetic rhyme never ceases infinity
Forever smokin' the mic lyric contact I be open
Naturally high and no need to pass the Dutchie
I'm the living circle circle dot dot, nobody can touch me
At my post, the most high exalted, mind blower
When I rap it it's strictly, I can't believe he just said that shit
Material crews, who can't think straight sober
My flows over your head, I enjoy the aerial view

Focus from the bird's eye, in my scenario, of dominance
Filth eatin' weaklings, we're bum rushin' like dirty communists
Raisin', my Iron Curtain revealin' my words the gospel
No apples or giant serpents, the enlightened apostle
J-Treds, I lace heads like tennis players top seeded
Not meanin' to cause a racket, or front the menace
My words speak for themselves, so feel me
'Cause on the mic I've got more presence
Than attendance in a class of schizophrenics, hear hear

Peace, yo peace! he ain't dead, the nigga don't sleep
He just gone awakened from the dream of life
It we, lost up in these stormy visions, who keep with phantoms and broke ass strife,
In a mad fuckin' trance, strike with our spirit knife
Invulnerable nothings we decay
Like corpses in a morgue, yo, fear and grief
Convulse us and consume us day by fuckin day,
And cold hopes swarm like worms within living clay.
Still the One remains if the many change and pass;
Heaven light shinin' on over Earth's shadow ass
Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass,
Stains the white radiance of Eternity,
Until Death tramples it down to fragments. — Die!
If a nigga wanna be with that he go seeks
Follow where y'all fled— Compton's bright blue sky,
Flowers, ruins, statues, music, words, weak
The glory they transfuse with fitting truth to speak.

Read those lyrics line for line and you'll realize he's just babbling.
Those two verses can be summed up as "I'm a better rapper than you", a statement that has been mimicked by rapper for fucking decades and one that they STILL haven't noticed the irony of. Do you think his expression of this common sentiment is particularly compelling? He's kind of all over the place in imagery and rhythm.

Far, far from poetry.

Hip-hop's subject matter is generally rather cliche and stagnant, sure.

However, the 'digressive' imagery and rhythm are just their style and isn't necessarily bad or good. The rhyme scheme is dynamic and in turn keeps the rhythm interesting and when read produces a nice melody just as a good poem would.

It's no masterpiece, but it shows rappers are some form of modern-day poets.

Unemployment at a record highs
People coming, people going, people born to die
Don't ask me, because I don't know why
But it's like that, and that's the way it is

People in the world tryin to make ends meet
You try to ride car, train, bus, or feet
I said you got to work hard, you want to compete
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!

Money is the key to end all your woes
Your ups, your downs, your highs and your lows
Won't you tell me the last time that love bought you clothes?
It's like that, and that's the way it is

Bills rise higher every day
We receive much lower pay
I'd rather stay young, go out and play
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!

Wars going on across the sea
Street soldiers killing the elderly
Whatever happened to unity?
It's like that, and that's the way it is

Disillusion is the word
That's used by me when I'm not heard
I just go through life with my glasses blurred
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!

You can see a lot in this lifespan
Like a bum eating out of a garbage can
You noticed one time he was your man
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is

You can see a lot in this lifespan
Like a bum eating out of a garbage can
You noticed one time he was your man
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is

You should have gone to school, you could've learned a trade
But you laid in the bed where the bums have laid
Now all the time you're crying that you're underpaid
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is
Huh!

One thing I know is that life is short
So listen up homeboy, give this a thought
The next time someone's teaching why don't you get taught?
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is

If you really think about it times aren't that bad
The one that flexes with successes will make you glad
Stop playing start praying, you won't be sad
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is
Huh!

When you feel you fail sometimes it hurts
For a meaning in life is why you search
Take the bus or the train, drive to school or the church
It's like that, and that's the way it is

Here's another point in life you should not miss
Do not be a fool who's prejudiced
Because we're all written down on the same list
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is
Huh!

You know it's like that, and that's the way it is
Because it's like that, and that's the way it is

Different anon here, who's read shitloads of poetry both Classical and modern, face it, man, love poems are the majority. Next comes religious (which almost always include love anyhow like Petrarch, Dante, or Donne), then war, then socio-political commentary (often within the war poem), then cats (why I don't know, but anyone who's extensively read poetry knows damn well what I mean), then everything else.
