I used to go to NA right next to a bookstore and they'd put books that didn't sell outside their door at night. I picked up Ivanhoe, an ooold (at least 1900, possibly before) collection of Emerson's essays, Selected Ezra Pound, and Celine's Death on the Installment Plan there.

I honestly got half of the western canon from my school's library, after they threw out the books that hadn't been withdrawn in the last 20 years.
The fact that nobody had checked those books out said something bad about humanity.
