I always wanted to know if I'm too slow at reading.
I know it's probably a ordinary question, but how many pages do you read at one day?

>> No.2793981

If you're trying to measure your slowness, words per minute would be a better indicator.

I tend to read books at 150wpm and most days I'll read at least 200 pages.

No, but it's certainly AN ordinary question

I can go through a 300 page book in about a day and half so what, 150 pages?

I probably could read 300 in one day if I really wanted though.

>> No.2793998

I can do 100-200 pages in an hour or so.

>> No.2794002

I can read 250wpm in enlgish, which is not my first language. How good is that?

fuck books, wait for the movie

How is that even possible? I can read 550 words per minute but 200 pages in an hour just seems insane, unless they're Hemingwayesque (at least by the standards of recent editions)

Reading is pretty much the only thing I do for entertainment, so I've developed a real fast rate of reading over the years.

I imagine you're going to get a lot of widely differing answers since you're asking what people read in a day, and for some people that means 'a day in which I sit down all afternoon and dedicate myself to reading' whilst to other people it means 'a day in which I read for half an hour on the tube as I commute to work'. Also, it very much depends on what type of book we're talking about, and whether we're talking about skim-reading for basic understanding, scanning for relevant passage, or deep reading to savour somebody's lovely prose.

You're also going to get a lot of people bragging about their speed-reading skills, and sooner or later this thread is definitely going to degenerate into a pissing contest about whether subvocalisation is for proles or not.

Basically the only question is whether you personally are satisfied with the speed at which you read. If not, you can teach yourself to read faster, but I reckon it's always good to retain the ability to read something slowly and deeply.

Depends on the style.

Orwell: ~90 p/h
DFWalrus: 60 p/h
Of Grammatology by Jacques Derrida: 20 p/h

from 2-3 hours of reading (which is roughly how much I do each day), I'll usually get through 60-80 pages. I gather this is quite slow.

>> No.2794118

Often depends on what you are reading. I sped through the Harry Potter books because they are clear and easy, reading techinical manuals is annother story.

this.

>> No.2794138

I usually really get into books and read lots of pages. Like at least 90.

If its a book with confusing or complicated information in it (like philosophy) then I might read less pages. I read a book recently like this and I only read 20 pages cause it was 2 deep 4 me. To balance this out though it took me a little longer to read those 20 pages. The more harder to read the slower I read.

Also with those sort of books its better to read it in small bits sometimes so you get more out of it.

i read about 30-40 pages a day. that's about 40 minutes worth of reading on the trizzy trainy.
