Wouldn't a prequel to Fahrenehit 451 be great?

The main character would be young captain Beatty,
and the plot revolves around his love of books and how that went away after his life crumbled apart in his hands and when he turned to books they offered no comfort anymore.

That sounds like it could be a great book standing alone! It really doesn't seem to need Fahrenheit 451's moniker attached to it for it to sound legitimate. Try and write some of it OP, it sounds promising.

Really!?
Thanks but the idea isn't mine, it came from a Fahrenheit 451 play that fans of the book preformed for ray bradbury.
Also if it is a prequel to the book it can be set in the present day as a commentary about how if we continue glorifying television and ipods and tablets and whatnot the world of Fahrenheit 451 is the future.

I didn't know there's an edition of Fahrenheit 451 illustrated by Ralph Steadman. I need to go browse Amazon now.
