For what it is, this book was actually pretty good and extremely entertaining.

>> No.2779439

For those who don't know, this book is written entirely in present tense.

If I ask you what "it is" you will contradict your previous statement(s).

Nah, it was a pretty damn good book, you pretentious cunt. Why don't you grow up and stop living for other people's approval and read and ZOMG MAYBE EVEN ENJOY whatever you want.

a book written in the fucking present tense throughout is fucking retarded. it feels like the author is carrying a notebook and writing down every little thing that is happening. It's very stupid. Very.

Gee, okay, man. SOMEONE TELL THAT CORMAC MCCARTHY because he's written no less than 3 novels in the present tense.

Oh yea, and Infinite Jest? It's written in the future tense.

So, whatever, man.

I didn't notice that while reading the series.

Makes me glad I'm not a stuck up prick about books, so I can still enjoy the random teen book.

Have you actually read both books? They're virtually nothing alike, aside from the "kids pitted against each other because of the government, one survives."

well gee, when you put it that way...

If you can't see how two different authors could take that in two completely different directions, I pity your imagination.

Did you read both? Or are you just regurgitating things you've read on the internet?

>> No.2779545

Except Suzanne Collins didn't take the story in a completely different direction, because she's incapable of original thought.

It's cool that you liked the Hunger Games, but seriously, it's trash. And your whole argument that it was "actually pretty good and extremely entertaining" isn't going to convince me that it's not trash. The prose is absolutely horrendous.

She hadn't read Battle Royale before writing the books.

I'm not OP, but thanks for playing.

>> No.2779568

I've never read the books, so I won't pass judgement; I'm sure it's an entertaining read, it's just that I don't put a lot of stake in the artistic merit od YA fiction.

>The prose is absolutely horrendous.

It's written from the perspective of a 16 year old girl, what do you expect?

I think the perspective was kind of forced, but I don't think the books really required anything else. They work they way they are.

IJ switches between past and present (past during the 3rd person sections (the majority of the book) and present during the 1st person sections)

I honestly didn't really like it. I was excited, tried to read with an open mind, wanted to enjoy it, but I didn't. I didn't like the style, I didn't like the characters, I didn't enjoy where she went with the plot.
The ending was also lackluster. Fricking teenagers.

I have no particular authority, I'm not the world's most widely and well read person. But opinion given.

For what it is, this turd is perfectly shaped and its turdiness is formidable.

It's not because it's good at what it wants to be that it's a good book.

>> No.2780523

The prose was the best part of the book, gritty and intense, usually, very hemmingway. The actual story was pretty stupid, the Capital was absurdly evil, characters not named Katniss are generally pretty stupid, save a handful, and the teen love shit got old quick.

No you stop posting, jerk. I know good literature, okay? I'm well read. I've read Great Gatsby, I've read Hemmingway, I've read Charles Dickens, etc, ETC, ETC. I've read the classics. And, yea, I also like FUN books like Hunger Games/Twilight.

Sorry if you think people that read high brown literature can't also read fun stuff, but its' not true.

Good to hear there's a fellow person of taste around here. I'm a jazz man myself. Miles, Coltrane, the list could go on.
