What is the most physically peculiar book of you library, /lit/?

Mine is Cosac Naify's (a brazilian publisher) rendition of The Beast in the Jungle.

It looks like a normal book at first...

(excuse the shitty camera)

How does it handle the tone switch-over? I assume there's no place where the background and text are the same gray.

According to the publishers, they wanted to make the reader gradually strain his own eyesight as Marcher approached the final revelation. It's kinda crazy but cool at the same time.

Yep, that's it.

As a side note the material of the cover is unusual. My english vocabulary is lacking in this subject, so I don't know what to call it. The feel reminds me of a textile. It gets dirty easily, though.

Posted this a few days ago.

The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas; the ends of the pages are black and the embossed writing on the cover has been coated in a weird texture (although the pic doesn't pick that up).

Oh, Cosac Naify is very artsy. I think that's the only book in english they have published, though.

They have a very cool edition of Moby Dick, but that's in portuguese.

The best part is inside, however. This an index linking each chapter to a place, an hour, a human organ, an art, a color, a symbol and a technique.

The fourth chapter reads: "4. Calypso > The house > 8 AM > Economy > Orange > Nymph > Narrative

By the end of the book we find a "poem" "written" by an engineer in honor of Mallarmé. Apparently the madman constructed a system of tubes into wich he injected a fluid. He then proceeded to measure the temperature of the liquid on each tube and assigned a letter to each different reading. The result is what you see.

Oh, it is a shame, indeed. Our publishing industry can be very creative.

Now, this one isn't exactly unusual, but I had to mention it for it's beauty. This an essay magazine named Serrote. Our n+1, if you wish.

Not really, while your likely to more variety in the way books are bound in Japan this one still stands out as being unusual, especially since your effectively wasting half of all the paper in the book.

Also, a traditional Japanese/Korean binding looks like this.

Not my pic because my copy is halfway around the world. The book is one long sheet of accordion folded paper, with fragments of poems, photographs, ancient greek, etc all tucked into a book sized box.
