Organizing alphabetically with respect to author causes chaotic color and size sequences. For that reason book collections tend to look ugly. When I organize video games and textbooks though, this problem is mitigated in one respect since the sizes are constant for like system and series. Dover books on math and science fit together and are all the same size, large textbooks are all printed on 8.5 x 11 paper, games of the same system go together etc.
