Why are you (the individual surfing /lit/) not a Stoic (note the noun Stoic and not adjective stoic)?

>> No.2748781

Because I don't know the health benefits involved with sticking a stick up your ass.

Not my field of study at the moment, but I believe I am more epicurean.

Are they opposing views?

>> No.2748837

Because I don't believe that the repression of emotion will lead to happiness/contentedness, and I don't believe in things like honor or morality, and I don't believe in god(s).

>> No.2748843

I consider myself a stoic.

>> No.2748846

becuz nechee amor fatis. satyr 4 lyf. fuk socrates.

>> No.2748847

I do take some things from stoicism. I don't fully subscribe to any school of thought. I take whatever I want from any/all of them depending on what works for me/makes my life easier/happier/slash

>> No.2748849

To not feel life is to not live at all.

>> No.2748855

What do you stoics think of buddhism?

>> No.2748856

Yes we know who the stoics are, asshole.

>> No.2748859

>>2748855
We think they're fabulous!

>> No.2748877

Stoicism was the Secular Humanism of Rome and an ugly shitty worldview.

>> No.2748878

>>2748847
This does it for me.

I would personally be more interested to know why those on this board who identify themselves as Stoics do so.

>> No.2748885

Because Epicureanism is superior.

>>2748833
Right on, good sir/madam.

Except they are the ones who believed in god-> >>2748837

And "secularism," what I'm guessing you mean is atheism and agnosticism, is nothing like stoicism but is still very much like epicureanism

>> No.2748975

>>2748914
They are similar in that they're both empty unphilosophical ideologies for a bland intelligentsia to substitute for real inquiry.

>> No.2748978

Stoic master race here.

>> No.2748986

I'm mostly stoic in nature but I don't fully subscribe to it. But in most cases I think that type of self-control works best for living a good life.
