Can we have a nice art thread? I know this isn't the place but i have a somewhat big collection that I wanted to share and no other boards care about the stuff.
If it bothers you guys i will stop posting.
I don't know why we don't have any art boards. I mean /ic/ is for critique, and it's full of anti-intellectual loomis worshiping drones who only enjoy fantasy and sci-fi stuff. Dunno.

Anyway, if you feel like sharing please do. If you feel like debating, do it too. Though I'm not sure if I could catch up with you guys, i'm not an expert.

Just post it, I think here are a lot of people who would appreciate nice art. There is a lot of shitty threads or at least a lot of shit posting today, so I don't think anyone would mind a thread about nice art. Feel free to post OP!

there's nothing elitist or bad about 'entry level'. I wish every artwork, music, book and film was entry level because it would mean we'd have reached a level of equality of opportunity where nothing is made inaccessible due to barriers in culture or wealth.

I used the phrase there because van gogh is a very accessible artist. he is incredibly well known. but also because i wanted to see how the poster would react. I get it all the time whenever I try to contribute and it's not very nice because no one else uses it positively. but the guy brushed it off, so I think I'll take something from his book next time.

it's the other way round. popularity is a result of a work being made accessible through mainstream channels. it becomes entry level when the doors are opened to more than just the idle rich. popularity can come after, but you can have works freely accessible that never gain popularity.

In fact, I actually feel inferior on the internet - I assume you're all much more intelligent than I am.

On the other hand, to say that van Gogh is entry level because his work is "popular" (and I hope he's in heaven with his good ear listening, because the idea of van Gogh being popular is kinda pleasing), is arrant cuntery. He was one of the finest painters of the 20th century, and frankly an inspiration to us all - he started painting late, smoked too much, ate too little, ponced off his family, and was disregarded in his lifetime. When I said "once an artist becomes popular, he becomes 'entry level'", the tone was sarcastic, i.e. I was making fun of the term entry level, as it is used by e/lit/ists, and not of your Van Gogh whom I'm indifferent about, since I've never really paid attention to his works. Maybe I will now that he was brought up, though.

>>2736628
entry level isn't a critique. it's a description of the accessibility and how well known an artist is. what makes you think it's any sort of condemnation??

yes i am aware of how most people use it. but my point is if you don't like that definition then the best way to dismiss it is to remember it's not actually a criticism of any piece of art.
