Three. English (naturally), French, Scottish Gaelic
>How many languages you can read
The three mentioned above. I'm going to attempt learning Dutch over the Summer though, I thought it may be a fairly easy goal to achieve. I think so far I've been proved wrong.
>Hardest/biggest book you've ever read in a foreign language
In terms of the largest book I've read, probably Celine's Voyage au bout de la nuit. In terms of hardest however, Paul Verlaine's poetry. With prose, you can hobble through most texts with even the most rudimentary understanding of the language. Idiomatic phrases and subtle allusions may be lost, but the jist of the text is still fairly apparent. Trying to read and understand poetry in a language that is not your own is difficult.

Three, a fourth if I concentrate
Cien Anos de Soledad, though Spanish isn't really a foreign language to me and it's not a particularly difficult book to navigate. I prefer to read and write in English, I speak to myself in Spanish 70% of the time, and I often dream in French. I'd like to learn Portuguese and it's fairly straightforward reading for me, though the spoken language is wildly different from Spanish.

The weekends right after the semester ends always seem to prove aimless for me. I'll get back on track eventually.

As I type, dawn is breaking. That feeling of shame I get when I know that I've just stayed up all night and foregone a healthy, normal sleep pattern for a few hours of pointless chat, is the worst thing about nights like these.

Makes me feel a tad better though that some fellow Brit is burning the midnight oil too.
