Has anyone been forced to read brick-level literature in highschool, or college?

OR have you read any of your own free will?
Pic related.

i've read infinite jest, 2666, against the day, and war and peace (all of my own volition). funnily enough they are four of my favourite reading experiences thus far.

C&P isn't quite brick–level, but it's close. We were really intensively tested on it and had to write some actually challenging essays.

Then again, my AP English teacher had a graduate degree from the Sorbonne.

Yes, everybody on this board has read Infinite jest, gravitys rainbow and Ulysses.

I assume when saying "brick-level" you mean very long books?

I'm a sucker for long books. Ulysses, war and peace, gone with the wind, lotr, and many a more.
I also quite enjoyed lesmis...

Does The Brothers Karamazov count? Planning to read it in a few or two.

It's something of a brick, but it's enjoyable enough to be worth it.

Meant to say in a week or two, heh

More or less enjoyable than Crime & Punishment? I'm midway into it right now and I kind of don't see the point in continuing with it.

Read that a couple days ago. It's pretty damn good and it almost replaced Monte Cristo as my favorite.

Depends what you'd consider brick-level. I tend to read stuff around the 6/700 mark, but I wouldn't call that a brick.

I enjoyed it a lot more than Crime & Punishment, but I liked them both quite a bit. Karamazov has some lyrical passage that are breathtaking, it's fucking phenomenal at points, I don't think C & P ever really reached those heights
