The mumblecore movement was basically made up of modern-day retellings of Catcher in the Rye. Actually adapting it would be kinda missing its point what with all its reliance on inner monologue. There's no need for it, what it tries to communicate has already been done in cinema and just transposing the storyline is, well, pointless.
