I just finished the first book, I just picked up the next two. Can I expect the whole series to be as good as the first, or does it become like a bunch of half-ass'd movie sequels?

I liked the first one but never finished the second one on the series and I thought I might read them all.

Still not a bad read to learn about naval customs of that time.

I just like development between Jack and the good Dr. bro's for life, and the sort "first person" narrative of life aboard the ship.

They're all good. O'Brian's prose alone is worth keeping up with the series. The audibooks are awesome too, narrated by an old pipe smoking englishman.

I read up to book 8 and I was still enjoying them, I took a break to read some other books I had piling but I look forward to going back and finishing them all.

Word, thanks fellas. Good to know the quality doesnt go down.

Obviously the books cant go completely at sea, but does each book hold a good amount of action/suspense?

I'm all for a branching love story or something like that, but I was attracted to the first book alone through the perfectly spaced battles.

There are usually one or two sea battles or chases (I love the chases, once they start I can't put the book down) per book plus each character has his own little storyline that keeps developing (don't want to give spoilers), there is some romance but it's not too overbearing, you can plow through it to get to the "good stuff".
