Hat store, milliner's.

Having that braid at the front is a fairly greek/southern european thing. They're fisherman caps.

Google Brando cap. I have a replica of the one worn in the wild one (pic related)

Being under 50 and wearing a hat in public is a nice litmus test for autism, unless you're balding or just a posh-spaz.

powerlevel varies from hat to hat; i like to grade with a scale from 'ironic flatcap' to 'full-on fedora'.

worried about your pasty visage disintegrating in direct sunlight?

I'm talking about context and everyday use; cutting about town in a trilby like your name's Bugsy is a far cry from wearing a baseball cap when you're hiking with your YMCA buddies.

If you wore a sombrero or a showercap every time you left the house I wouldn't think you were autistic; i'd think you were bipolar.

i kind of want to go all out on fedoras and wear them literally all the time along with an outfit from the 1940s. like get the whole ensemble going on, slacks, suspenders, long ass coat. and wear it all the time. and get super-high-quality clothes. my theory is that autismal shits fail at this because (1) they get shitty quality clothes and (2) they don't wear it well enough or often enough to be comfortable with it and normal. i think somebody could pull it off it they went all out and adopted it as part of their lifestyle. basically i want to be the fat, crass detective supporting character from a 1950s noir movie.

So. I've decided i've had enough of these scummy hipster douchebags around where I live and the university I go to. I'm changing my fashon sense drastically. I don't want to have the same checkered shirts, the same "Trendy" hair, and I sure as hell don't want to be titled one of those massive candy-asss.

So sometime in the next months I will be returning to university, during summertimes wearing suit trousers, shirt, waistcoat, tie and shoes. During the winter i'll have the full sha-bam too. Fedora (Not the fag-ass tiny ones) blazer, overcoat, leather gloves.

With my height. (6ft2) and my build (Athletic, wide shouldered) I should look the part. And I'll be making a fucking change, too.

What do you think? Yes or No? or even more to add to it.

PS: This isn't no dumbass "Tophat monocle what what" this is 40's style. (Not zoot suits, they suck).

I also smoke. Pic somewhat related.

here's the thing

it is clear that, at one time, it was possible to wear these styles of clothing. it can't possibly be the case that the immutable laws of the universe changed. i mean, i think that illustrates the problem, which is that people don't understand the reality of the thing - they want to be sam spade and wear a trenchcoat and have a cigarette dangle from their lip and call women "dame". this is inauthentic bullshit; it is a literary, not a real, aspiration. that's precisely what gets in the way of historical reconstruction.

Go 20`s or 30's...it tends to look better with fedoras, riding caps, or homburgs. Look up any P.G. Wodehouse stuff for examples.

I wear that kind of era clothing, as I generally have to wear suits for my career (teaching).

A waistcoat with a chained pocket watch...makes everything fit nicely.

I enjoy Prince of Wales checked suits, 3 or 4 buttoned suits, and ascots.

GRRM wears a greek-sailor cap. There is also a close styled cap called a fiddler cap...might be worth looking into that.

If you want to do 40's and 50's...stick to skinny and solid colour ties. Late 50's and 60's...go with fat and loud-coloured ties.

What do you mean different time period? That he looks like he's dressing from a different time period, because this picture was taken last year I think.

Every picture I see of him he's styling the fuck out on errybody and he's only 2 years older than me. Depending on the setting, I think if you are comfortable and confident enough you will look good wearing that.

Just buy a cheap Ben Sherman suit that fits around the shoulders and have it tailored. The key to looking good in suits is all about the fit. Once you have a reasonable suit that is tailored to your body, and not an off-the-peg topshops own, you should look half decent.

No, I live in Japan. But as a few sides notes of personal history:

- I used to live in Canada (usually considered peaceful) where I was beaten half-to-death by 6 crust punks armed with whatever their gritty hands could get a hold on.

- I lived in the USA, where being a foreigner ( German here) in the Southern US made me a target for drunk college guys who were pissed off that the girls they were after talked only to me.

- Living in Japan sounds wonderful, but it is actually a very xenophobic country with more Yanki (or Yankii, which ever spelling to stress the ending) and chinpira walk about trying to start something with foreigners.

Style and protection, that is a lifestyle motto.

I actually should probably get a decent hat for when I work outside at my seasonal job. My scalp where my hair is parted has gotten sunburned the last two occasions I worked.

I have no idea what kind of hat to wear though, I don't really want a baseball cap or one that's made of a dark/heavy material. The only time I wear hats is in the winter when I'm out shoveling.
