Not OP but now that I look into this, it seems interesting, however I would like a way to get a brief summary of the historical events surrounding the novel. Any suggestions?

Just do some reading on or watch a few historical documentaries on the Russian Civil War and Stalinism so you can get the setting but also what Pasternak was getting at.

Nabokov hated it. But I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that John Ashbery liked Doctor Zhivago. So maybe they cancel out?

I dug the film, cause Julie Delpy and Omar Sharif are beautiful together.

Haven't read the book, have a french translation somewhere.

Bumping for more opinions.

Nabokov was a bro. But he also called Faulkner "corn-cobby"...like it's a bad thing!

Movie's cool, though, and Lara's Theme, damn, nigga, that's a good score.
