I have this cute laminated bookmark with one of my little sister's school photos in it. It was something the company who took her school photos offered.

>> No.2677368

In middle school my teacher gave me a hand stitched bookmark with a peacock on it. The back is blue felt and the border & tassel is a golden yellow. It's one of my most prized possessions and I use it in the book I'm currently reading, otherwise I have a nook and/or I use what I have lying around. I also have a system to see which of the two pages I'm on. The side of the bookmark with the most information is the page I'm on. For a magic card that would be the front where the photo is, for a receipt it would be where the purchases are.

If you can't recall what page you're on - are you really reading the book?

I guess it's obvious /lit/ would need bookmarks.

>> No.2677402

I rip the page out and put it in my pocket. It's not like I'm going to read the book again anyway.

I remeber when I got my shiny Noctowl. I nearly had a fucking heart attack. Oh childhood, I will never stop.

>> No.2677408

I usually just grab something I have laying around at the moment. Paperboard from a shoe box or pack of gum, guitar pick, netflix sleeve. Sometimes I put two books together and they mark each others places. I'm almost always reading like 5+ things at a time.

This, I cannot comprehend.

A professor once explained how he rarely read a book from start to finish, but instead just sort of read the end, and then read it, or went back and forth. I nearly lost my shit. I just can't deal with that.

There was a study I heard about a few months ago that said when you know the ending you tend to enjoy a book more, mostly because you feel anxious about the unknown.

I couldn't do that though.

>> No.2677421

One of the advantages of a kindle is that it saves your place but if I'm reading an actual book I'll use a train ticket, I usually have a ton hanging about.

Well, I do this usually if the book is loosing my interest, and I just want something to read. Then the story itself isn't really important anymore.
I found out a while back that randomly thrusting myself into the book will actually hold my attention more, maybe because I have to use the context to figure out who the people are and what has already happened.
But I don't do this all the time.
I force myself not to read the ending though.

Fold the corner at the top of the page. If it's a library book I use a note on a paper the size of a check. It's from my old neighbor from where I used to live. Guy was a Captain in the Marine Corps and used to go fishing with me. This note is just asking how I'm doing, and it ends with "Semper Fi, Joe". I don't know, I just really like it.
