For an easier entry book, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men is the way to go. Maybe start with the story "Forever Overhead."

Most of his essays are pretty accessible and very entertaining.

If you want a taste of his stuff written in his tougher, more complex narrative voice, "The Soul is not a Smithy" from Oblivion is incredible.

I'm probably going to read all his stuff and save Infinite Jest for last.
