definitely, fuck yeah!
just if youre about to make it, dont start reading from first part, but at least fifth or further (i reccomend "Guards! Guards!", tells prety much about Ankh Mopork, which is biggest city and key to Discworld); later you can move back. First books were mean to be simple parody of crappy fantasy and only later it turned to be more on its own.
Those books are fraught with references not only to fantasy but also history, science, politics and maybe author gots them all; though its still fun to read

But...but... Rincewind.

>> No.2655158

Yup. But its important what you start with - some of the first books seem very crappy if you aren't already familiar with the series - I'd recommend starting with Small Gods or Guards, Guards

>> No.2655166

Yes, but the series if very uneven. Some of the books, like the oft recommended Guards, are excellent, and some of the books are complete shit (*cough* anything with Moist *cough*). I suggest reading the most popular books and then moving on to the shit.

nice to see someone agrees
actually i started from first part so i know what i'm talking
srsly, after that you jump back to no.1...or next book from series you will get in hands. Its not TV series, action of every part is separate and you can read it in random order, its just that if you do it in turn you understand more relishes

it depends on taste, for me economical subseries is above average of cycle... de gustibus etc.

the first books are good, but I agree with him, you should start with something like guards. They are just a better introduction to the world, and they are better written

My very personal preference: Watch novels are the best, all the way through (even though I haven't read Snuff yet, because I only own paperbacks). Especially Night Watch, which is considered by many to be the best Discworld novel, and the first three.

The Death novels are quite good as well, but somehow I find Death always more funny outside his "own" series, he always seems more humane, especially in the Witches ones.

If you like Shakespeare, Witches novels often have quite a lot of references.

Concerning the picture, "Ancient Civs" aren't directly related, as indicated by the dotted lines.

If you enjoy the Death series, read it before reading Night Watch. It explains why what happens happens and it doesn't seem just falling out of the sky.

But it's definitely not mandatory if you feel you have to force yourself through the Death books.
