>tfw you go to a bookstore and aren't impressed by any author, writer, or philosopher because you know you are smarter than them and anything they have to say you already fully understand

I wish I wasn't so smart, then I could enjoy these trivial literature and philosophy stories like /lit/ does

Being able to fully understand something doesn't mean there isn't ideas out there that have never crossed your mind.

>> No.2652553

Must have stayed away from the philosophy section, huh, kiddo?

Post your writing, OP

those ideas can be broken down into basic parts which I already know

everything that we can know is pretty obvious, the rest is just hypothetical what-ifs and speculation

Why are people responding angrily if it's literally impossible the OP isn't being tongue-in-cheek

>> No.2652558

Same here OP, but I also sometime get the urge to write the same crap these people read just to make millions off of it, but at the same time, I would hate my fans and not be able to live with myself after the fact.
How do you feel about this?

People actively enjoy being trolled. Getting angry on the internet is about as common as furiously masturbating several times a day over shemale porn these days.

OP's criticism doesn't work with fact based disciplines like history or science, it works with theory-based disciplines like fiction or philosophy that just analyze ideas and possibilities

>> No.2652661

OP, just because you are more intelligent than all these authors (which i very much doubt), doesn't mean you can't be gripped by wonderful story telling, and wowed by experiences that you haven't had.

OP is the Dunning-Kruger effect, exemplified.

>> No.2652733

Comes down to this OP. When I was an undergrad I felt the same way you did (and to some extent still feel that way), but there is still merit in reading fiction, especially fiction from outside of your native culture. You don't have to be the smartest man in the room to be the best storyteller.

Once one is aware of the effect, he/she can compensate for it, rendering it useless.
