Just got this in the mail. Ordered it months ago, before its scheduled release.

Should I be excited?

Book looks fucking good though: fine print, flexible pages, etc. God tier paperback, like Penguin classics.

You got a problem with Dick. Is it too hard for you? Or too long?

>> No.2652526

>>2652517

Nah, but it's never thick enough. I like something I can really get my teeth into and Dick lacks girth and heft.

You can't ignore Gary Oak's girth.

Dick has predictable endings. Sometimes juicy but it's always the same.

What stopped you from reading it 60 years ago?

A distinct lack of existence.

And more recently, some REALLY FUCKING UGLY BOOK COVERS.

Although I do love the new Mariner covers, It still didn't stop me from reading a very ancient edition of A Man in the High Castle half a year ago..

You're a cunt.

>> No.2652581

>very ancient

A very recent ugly as fuck cover would keep me from enjoying the book as much. If I really wanted to read the book, I'd still read it, but that's why I chose to wait for this one, as it is far better, and Dick deserves good covers.

As to being a cunt, judging by the posts in this thread, it's obvious who behaves like one.

That's a nice cover than the crap fest we get here in the UK

I'm in Switzerland, I got this off the German amazon. It came out only a few days ago. Maybe other novels will be released in this edition (Mariner books). Most covers I've seen for Dick were crap. This is an exception.

Get the Library of America volumes! They're absolutely beautiful, and you get at least 4 novels each for a comparatively interesting price.

I would, but I already own that entire collection in individual paperback form. Having two copies, one that just sits on my shelf looking pretty really isn't my type of investment.

Makes sense. Look up Mariner books, they publish individual novels in good-looking paperbacks.

Can you believe there's an actual CONTROVERSY over these covers? Apparently, the "fans" are offended by these covers and regret the old ones.

The old ones are fucking horrible. I don't get it.

Nice! My collection of those isn't as intensive, but my shelves are starting to be taken over by SF Masterworks editions.
PS Stand on Zanzibar, my favourite SF novel of all time!

>> No.2652645

I think these covers are epic and treat Dick like a true writer of literature. I like minimalism in covers, for one, and for two, nothing can be worse than the previous covers. These old covers look like ancient hookers with too much makeup.

Analogy win!
But you're right. PKD and to be fair many other SF writers have for far too long been relegated to the cheap, pulp, throwaway paperback with garish frontcovers designed to appeal to children. Children being who most publishing houses still believe are the sole market for SF. It's about time writers of such immense imagination were given their due.

>> No.2652679

oooh that new cover is purrrrty!

what's inside though? just the novel? any afterwords or intros or anything?

>> No.2652680

Just the novel, I just checked. Fine by me, though.
