Where do I start? I love reading a book and getting that feeling of ornateness/delicateness from the writing.

I obviously feel like I'm missed a lot of the meaning in many books and I'd like some pointers in the right direction.

I finished The Great Gatsby recently, so discussion about that? Help me to greater understand

Hope you have a thick skin. /lit/ can be a real cunt towards those they don't consider to be among the cognoscenti. If you liked Gatsby, though, you might want to try some of these:
The Crying of Lot 49
Franny and Zooey
The Man in the High Castle
This Earth of Mankind Quartet
Thing Fall Apart
The Crystal Palace

Enjoy!

Brideshead Revisited! That's about creepy posh people, too!

Tender Is The Night, also by Fitzgerald.
The Transit Of Venus by Shirley Hazzard

These are all great recommendations! So check them out, OP.

Re Great Gatsby - it's really a great book, one that I hold in esteem, and one that I should probably reread soon. Did you have any topics in particular that you wanted to talk about? You should keep in mind that this isn't really the kind of thing where there's one correct interpretation that we can reveal to you. But I'm curious about your thoughts!

broadly sample and don't listen to /lit/ too much. read the classics of the western tradition, read less than 30% contemporary shit, and try to sample every literary genre, even philosophy and history

biggest pitfall of highschoolcore is the narrow focus. better awareness and comprehension comes from more experience and wider experience.

I take it you saw the recommended reading link on the sticky. You should prob check that out, I'm currently working thru it, it's a good list to work from.

some of the rankings have been disputed, so don't take it too seriously.

I'm pretty sure Finnegan's wake is a song bro.

Through my deductive reasoning though, I figured you meant the book by James Joyce. Is this the 'map' you were talking about?

Quick question, OP. Do you go to school in the US? Because the Gatsby seems like required reading (for obvious reasons) for every high school junior/senior. And I'm curious because my class just finished it.

And to answer your question, I'd recommend On the Road by Jack Kerouac. It's fast-paced and interesting. If you want things that are kind of trippy and weird, try Slaughterhouse-Five (time travel) and Breakfast of Champions (nearly done, though I'm getting freaked out by the part where is a character in the book that he wrote ), both by Kurt Vonnegut

Gatsby was gay. Remember the night he was with the journalist or something and it says he woke up 7 hours later at the train station? I cant remember the details, but he was a faggot
