My boyfriend persuaded me to read these and I actually enjoyed them a lot. I know it's dumb because it's a kids book or whatever but I haven't read much for a couple years and this got me interested in reading again.

Any suggestions for anything similar, or the books it was "inspired by" or that it "ripped off"?

(I don't care for Twilight and I've seen Battle Royale half a dozen times so I'm not really interested in reading it)

Fuck off. It's not literature. It's escapism for teens. Nothing more, nothing less.

You know, you don't need to make a claim about "THIS ISN'T LITERATURE" to say it's bad and shouldn't be discussed on /lit/, and I wish you wouldn't. I think it would be a stronger, less dumb argument if you did that.

The battle royale book is actually significantly different to the film, the general plot is mostly the same but there were some very substantial changes, even in the characters, so I would definitely still recommend reading it, it's a fantastic book.

It's okay. It's not that great. Let's not overrate it. It's an entertaining and readable book.

Hardly escapism. Same as any genre fiction really... And there's no harm talking genre fiction on here.

Then why are we discussing it?

OP, read a real book, goddamn. Really, there are short ones out there that are great and easy to read and you won't look like a fucking philistine when you're reading them on the subway.

Try Hesse's Journey to the East. Or even If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Calvino. Please though, don't continue to read fad young adult fiction. It's embarrassing and you're cheating yourself of truly beautiful works.

The maze runner. Basically hunger games from a male perspective, comes in a trilogy and switches up the story and rules just enough to be interesting. You can thank me after you've read it OP.

Also

>Those scenes you wanted to know more about that the author didn't go into detail on. Especially the deaths or the interesting bits of the story.

>Dat whining

>Dat final choice

after the second book she really dragged it on with that shelter bullshit. I'm never reading this stuff again but I can see why people might like it.

If you want another good trilogy look into Procession of the dead.

Definitely The Running Man. All I could think of while reading Hunger Games was "oh it's like TRM but not nearly as good."

Pretty much. Still an enjoyable read. It'd have gotten more popular than Hunger Games if it wasn't for the extreme violence some people are afraid of

I actually just finished the last book about two hours ago. It left me feeling empty and with so many questions. Did she ever forgive Gale? Did she even ever see him again? I accepted her chouce of Peeta, but to let go a friendship that strong as what she had with Gale all so easily just doesn't sit well with me. I understand that he would be a constant reminder of her sister, but wouldn't he have also been a reminder of her strength during starvation and how he helped save her then destitute family? Their relationship was just too strong to forget, imho.
