Are there any gay books with happy endings? Better yet, are there any lighthearted gay books with happy endings? Because lack of such has left me in despair.

Really? Nothing?

It's weird. A solid 40% of canonical authors were probably gay or bisexual, but that's almost never reflected in the works.

Haha, I just realized I couldn't think of any. Not that I am an expert on such things, but you are right in that I cannot really think of one that is 'happy'.

"My Antonia" is the closest 'gay' book I can think that is 'happy.' It's not technically written from a lesbian perspective, since the main character is male, but Willa Cather was clearly writing autobiographically (and it is not hard to imagine the main character as a female). It ends bittersweet, which is as happy as it comes in my knowledge of such literature.

oh carsey mac. why couldn't you have written an alternate version of THIALH where that one dude and his plus size boo live to solve mysteries together?

this.

Not lighthearted, but the ending is optimistic. Such a damn good play.

I've only ever read Angels in America but it was a wonderful experience. I read it in one sitting in high school while sitting fully pantsed on a toilet at school and cutting several classes in a row

Definitely see the mini-series. The acting alone makes it worth it. Some of the more theatrical moments didn't really do it for me, but the direction and performance are stellar in general. Definitely worth a watch.

Look up A Different Light by Elizabeth Lynn or Carnival by Elizabeth Bear. Both are space opera-y, a little pulpy, but really good.
