What are /lit/'s thoughts on Achebe's critique of Conrad's HoD? I personally think he missed the point.

>> No.2620579

I remember a few years ago Achebe came to my university to receive some award. People kept asking him questions about "Things Fall Apart" and he was like "hey, I wrote other books too, you guys" but nobody cared because nobody had read anything else by him

It's a pity too, because some of it is not bad at all. Though i think he has as much of a fixation on the word "nigger" as he accuses conrad of having.

To quote our friends from /pol/:

Nigs gonna nig

i think he has something of a point altho i don't agree entirely with him and i think heart of darkness is still a great work.

i mean, achebe is a smart guy, i think he probably can comprehend "the point is that all human beings are equal savage" and take that on as something conrad is trying to say before he begins his critique - and i think that he does. his critique is something we should keep in mind even if we dont sign on to it wholeheartedly. imo

This. Well said.

Even to facetiously refer to /pol/ users as our friends is in quite poor taste.

Achebe seems like a really smart guy. I dind't much care for Things Fall Apart though, and I almost completely disagree with his reading of HoD. As others have said, he seems to miss the point completely. I don't even think the savages in the book are "languageless". That's just the way whites and Marlowe along with them perceive them.

who the fuck reads niggers!1!!!

I came here from /b/ to escape these people....
Of course, you could say that conrad =/= marlow

>> No.2620676

>>2620668

I think you'd be fool to say that Conrad was Marlow. It's never that easy with literature.

At least limit your bored Sunday morning trolling to one thread, okay? Mommy has a headache and you're making her very tired.

My brain shuts down when I hear niggers critiquing anything than their own pathetic culture.

Well someone had a field-day in >>2615525 this weekend so I feel /lit/ has filled its troll-post quota for a while, at least on that topic.
