Why would anyone read books taking place in the 19th and 20th century with no out-of-the-ordinary elements?

Because people like to think outside of the box

Seriously why do people still have trouble with fantasy? I have a feeling you fags are feigning ignorance just so we can give you a clear explanation as to why we like to read fantasy.

Oh you poor thing.

You know that fiction is fictional, right? That a dragon is just as real as Leopold Bloom, right?

You'd benefit from an in-depth study of folklore. Just because those tales are about little talking critters doesn't mean they can't teach you a thing or two.

"Realism" was a fad genre of the 19th and 20th centuries

This is true, actually. Historically speaking, there are many more notable works of fantasy than realism.

Even that divide is fairly recent, now that I think about it.
