Fly by night (Francis Hardinge) maybe? A very clever and witty YA fantasy that trancends it's genres limitations.

If I keep posting I'm bound to come up with a book someone has read and enjoyed.

Finally! Yes he was a singular writer. I have yet to find another that writes with the same mythological gravitas in sci fi. Any particular short story your favourite? My fav is pic related I think

I have never felt such exhilaration reading a book since Greg Egan's Axiomatic. Hoping that Hannu will be the next writer to bring me that fix.
